Quakes 14A HS Finishes 5th TCS World Series Utah 7/15

Congratulations to all Quakes teams as our athletes wrap up the fall 2017 season.  More than 200 players from all over the South Bay Area competed in the Quakes club travel program this spring, summer and fall!  Teams played in a variety of tournaments throughout the Western United States and Canada, developing hundreds of players for high school and collegiate play.

Quakes strives to provide our families with tremendous coaching, player development, and competitive tournament opportunities.  Our teams competed in PGF, TCS, ASA, and USSSA events, matching team goals and maximizing the skills of each individual.

Quakes teams continue to play fall tournament competition at 14's, 16's and 18's as the 2017 year finishes up.  Quakes Fastpitch players received numerous academic awards and all-league recognition in 2017 playing for more than a dozen South Bay Area high schools.  The commitment to high achievement in the classroom and on the softball field is key to the success and growth of our organization.  Cheers to all our players for their hard work and excellence in each challenging endeavor.

Quakes Fastpitch is an affiliation between 5 South Bay Area non-profit youth fastpitch softball organizations, and we begin our second year of Quakes Fastpitch with great enthusiasm and excitment. Our goals continue to be offering a competitive playing opportunity for 14U, 16U, and 18U players with a wide range of experience from those relatively new to the game to those kids with many years of high caliber play. Quakes offers year-round playing opportunities. For middle school players preparing for high school and travel ball and high school kids looking for a competitive summer and travel team at 14's, 16's and 18's, the Quakes program is your destination for fastpitch softball.

Welcome Coaches

  Vanessa Chagoya    Breezy Bernard

Quakes Add New Head Coaches to 14A MS and 14A HS Teams Fall '17

Quakes Fastpitch is excited to announce two new head coaches with our organization this fall. Breezy Bernard and Vanessa Chagoya have joined the SouthBay Quakes to add experience and leadership to our 14A teams, assuring that each of our players maximizes her development and growth with the game. Both Breezy and Vanessa have played and coached at the Division 1 collegiate level as well as with club teams, and each woman brings tremendous skill, knowledge, and leadership. Quakes is excited to add women in coaching leadership roles, notably individuals who have both played and coached at the highest levels of the game.

Leading the Quakes 14A Middle School team is Breezy Bernard. Breezy was a 4 year starter at Santa Clara University before taking on the roll of an assistant coach for SCU the past two years.

Leading the Quakes 14A High School team is Vanessa Chagoya.  Vanessa played at San Jose State from 2005 to 2009 before moving on to coaching. For the last 7 years she was an assistant coach at Santa Clara University.

About Quakes

Quakes Fastpitch exists to develop fantastic softball players that share a passion for the game. Equally true is our emphasis on life balance with athletics, academics, and family. Our culture not only allows but promotes terrific performance in the classroom and on the field, young adults playing multiple sports and participating in activities beyond the athletic realm. A recent study from the American Academy of Pediatrics further supports our collective philsophy.

AAP Clinical Report (Link)

The AAP encourages young athletes to play multiple sports and delay specializating in a single sport until late adolescence. Data from the study shows that about 70% of kids drop out of organizated sports by age 13. However, the same research confirms that children who play multiple sports, who diversify their play, are more likely to enjoy physical activity and achieve their athletic goals.

Quakes understands the demands placed on high caliber student athletes, and has created a model that aligns the goals of all those involved including the player, parents, coaches, and organization.

Our teams play excellent compeition and participate in tournaments throughout California and the western United States. This summer Quakes competed in over 35 different tournaments, includng ASA, PGF, USSSA and Canada Cup championship events.

High caliber play and development, elite academic performance, excellent coaching, and great sportsmanship are all key elements of Quakes culture.

Please check with your teams about upcoming college recruiting seminars and play great as teams roll into summer season. We also encourage families to attend local college camps this spring/summer to foster relationships with those teams, coaches, and institutions.

As the academic year wraps up and final grades and college board results come in, please remember and embrace our philosophy that emphasizes world class academics coupled with exceptional athletic achievement. Work hard in the classoom, athletic training, and on the field and enjoy every moment to be your best!

Scholar Athletes

Quakes Fastpitch "Scholar Athletes Spotlight" program recognizes players throughout the year, highlighting notable academic achievements and recognition!
Quakes summer travel teams had cumulative GPA's over 3.5 with several teams over 3.8 GPA.  High achievement in the classroom and in the field is our program wide goal.  Players are asked to submit their final grades for the academic year 2016-17 by the end of June.
